Bohemian vibes for your interiors

Think crochet and lace, leather goods, trinkets, gems, and oodles of indigo. Bohemian decor is an iconic trademark of 2016 and can be incorporated into your retail space, cafe, restaurant, or home. The beauty of bohemian decor lies in the attention to detail and the love of texture and individual pieces that hold a unique story. Hailing from places like Mexico, North and South America, as well as Turkey and India, bohemian detailing comes in many styles — from the hippi-est of hippy, to the soft and rustic elements of Scandinavian design.

Let’s head to India…

…where culture is rich and colour is plentiful. Incorporating an Indian-inspired bohemian look to your interior space involves much less effort than what you may initially think. Opt for accent colours like red and orange by adding a simple cloth garland to your room, not as a feature, but rather as a slight adornment that will catch the light and brighten up the space. Beaded features like wall hangings or door tassels will also bring a touch of colour to the space, creating a more relaxed and inspired environment.

Next stop, North America…

… where leather and lace create the perfect combination for a sense of effortless cool. Wondering around the streets of Coledale, I stumbled across an incredible local store inspired by creative practices from all over North America. You could tell straight away that these guys were lovers of leather. Chairs, bar stools, bags, bracelets, cushions, you name it. Animal fur and hides used as wall hangings or floor rugs are also a popular characteristic of North American bohemian interiors, and create a western ruggedness that adds a touch of warmth and character to the space. This look is particularly suitable for retail and domestic spaces where a cozy atmosphere helps make people feel at ease. Dreamcatchers and macrame pieces make for perfect wall hangings and work particularly well for spaces will high ceilings or unique archways. Down to Mexico…

… where embroidered detailing makes us all smile. The Mexican dresses of Puebla and Oaxaca are the ultimate inspiration for bohemian inspired homes and cafes. There’s nothing better than a neutral colour palette of creams and light grey joining forces with the exciting notes of bright red, pink, green, blue, and yellow. This is typical of Mexican style and radiates a sense of festivity and exhilaration. Embroidered ottomans and handprinted wooden furniture provides the perfect ‘Mexican’ addition to your interiors and livens up the space. It also provides the perfect opportunity to use those pieces that carry a story so rich it deserves to be displayed!
